Volunteer Space
In collaboration with France Volontaires, Skillshare International (India) Trust has set up a unique Volunteer Space in India. This is both a physical and a virtual space, bringing together people volunteering across India.
Between our two organisations, we bring together over fifty years of experience in harnessing volunteer missions for development and solidarity at a global level. In particular France Volontaires has previous experience of creating Volunteer Spaces across the world, while Skillshare has many decades' worth of experience of recruiting and placing skilled development worker volunteers, as well as of working with grassroots organisations across India, where we are partnering with more than 30 NGOs. Both France Volontaires and Skillshare have a deeply-held belief in the importance of volunteer action in bringing about positive social development.
To support volunteers in their important work, the physical Volunteer Space has been established in the Lajpat Nagar area, in New Delhi, India. This is the Volunteer Space's central point, providing information, administrative and practical guidance, and general assistance to volunteers working in India. The Space also organises and hosts events on various themes, such as inter-cultural consensus building and project management tools.
Of course, being based in New Delhi we recognise that many volunteers based elsewhere in India will be unable to access the physical space. This is where the virtual Volunteer Space comes in: the virtual community facilitates discussion and support for and by volunteers by forming support groups and links amongst volunteers based in disparate regions and communities across India. It also includes blogs and updates on social media, so is the perfect way to stay connected, wherever in India, or indeed the world, you are.
