International Citizen Service with Skillshare International

UK aid logoHow much will it cost to participate in ICS?

ICS is funded by the UK government's Department for International Development.  The scheme is open to everyone, but those who can afford to contribute will be asked to pay for part of the costs of their volunteer placements overseas, while those with lower incomes will be able to go for free. All volunteers are encouraged to get involved in fundraising activities before and after their placements.

How much you need to contribute will be based on the income of the household on which you depend. If you are financially independent, your contribution will be based on your own income.

If the income of the household on which you depend is:

  • Less than £25,000 per year: Your participation in ICS will be fully funded.
  • £25,000-£40,000 per year: You need to make a £1,000 contribution.
  • Over £40,000 per year: You need to make a £2,000 contribution.

What do the costs cover?

Regardless of your household income, you will be provided with flights, visas, travel and medical insurance, medication and vaccines, accommodation, an allowance while you are overseas, and full support throughout the programme.

All volunteers are encouraged to have a go at raising funds to support Skillshare Internationals' development programmes.

It's a great way to develop your organisational and communication skills, and spread the word about the work you’ll be doing overseas. (And did we mention there's a prize for the top fundraiser in each group!)

To help you get started, we give all volunteers a copy of our Fundraising Guide, which is full of tips and ideas.
