£3.68 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund
In 2009 we started a series of six new projects in five countries in Southern Africa with funding from the Big Lottery. We're working in partnership with six national and regional networks of people living with HIV and AIDS to:
- Improve education, psycho-social support and nutrition for orphans and vulnerable children.
- Increase the number of people with living with HIV and AIDS who notify their partners of their HIV status - to prevent re-infection.
- Increase the number of people living with HIV and AIDS who have access to care and support services.
- Change local, national and regional level policies to reflect the rights of PLWHA.
The total grant over five years is for £3.68 million. As well as providing direct financial support to our partners in Southern Africa, six Skillshare International development workers are sharing their skills and building local capacity.
Elijah Adera, who is leading the implementation of the projects, says: "This will enable Skillshare International to make a huge contribution to the fight against HIV and AIDS, and to support orphans and vulnerable children in Southern Africa"

Leadership Development within the Southern African PLWHA sector
On 22-26 March 2010, Skillshare International ran a leadership development workshop for six networks on PLWHA in Southern Africa. This was an exciting piece of strategic leadership development work that will contribute towards enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of these critical networks in the region. It was funded by the Big Lottery Fund strategic grant alongside the placement of Skillshare International development workers with the networks.
