First prize
Julie George won with this striking image of a woman using the public telephone in a model village in Tamil Nadu, Southern India. The village was built after the Tsunami which devastated many homes in the area. The 2005-6 project included:
- building homes to replace those destroyed in the Tsunami
- providing fishing boats and equipment
- training in alternative livelihoods
- psychological counselling

Skillshare International development worker Caragh Filose took this eye-catching image of women from the Mshikamano Group (Solidarity Group) trying on the hand batik and tie-dyed cloth which they make and sell to generate incomes in Uru North, Tanzania.

Margarita Doneva took this photo at the celebration of the International Day of the Africa Child, in a Masaai village in Tanzania.
Local children campaign for their right to go to school and receive decent care, in front of local politicians and the village community. Their banner reads we children have the right to get education and be well taken care of. |
