The role of supporters
As a supporter of Skillshare International, you will receive regular updates about our work and wider development issues in Africa and Asia. You could also help raise our profile, develop financial support or promote international understanding.

Local groups
Meeting with other supporters is one of the most effective ways to become involved in sustainable development in Africa and Asia. By working together in small local groups, supporters can hold fundraising events, promote awareness of development and increase the profile of Skillshare International.

For more information on local group meetings in Leicester, Manchester, Cambridge and London including dates and venues, please email supporters@skillshare.org or telephone +44 (0) 116 257 6615.

Activities
Supporters can get involved in a variety of activities. Returned development workers and health trainers give talks about their life and work in Africa and Asia. Recently, supporters have been involved in key campaigns such as the 0.7% campaign which put pressure on the UK government to commit that percentage of GNP to the overseas aid budget.

Supporters also have the opportunity to take part in workshops. In December 2002, 20 supporters attended Skillshare's workshop on "HIV/AIDS Stigma and Discrimination" to mark World AIDS Day.

Other supporters give regular donations or raise money themselves to support our work in Africa and Asia.

0.7 % Campaign Update
In the recent Spending Review, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that aid spending will rise to 0.47% of Gross National Income (GNI) by 2007/8 and, at the current rate of growth, should reach 0.7% by 2013.

This is a big THANK YOU to all of the Skillshare International supporters who mobilised to lobby Gordon Brown to commit 0.7% of GNI to overseas aid, by signing and sending paper and e-cards and by pressuring their MPs to sign the Early Day Motion 421.
