East Midlands Network for Global Perspectives in Schools (EMNGPS)
The East Midlands Network for Global Perspectives in Schools (EMNGPS) is funded by DFID's Enabling Effective Support (EES) initiative, which aims to make DFID support for development education in schools more effective and to move development education forward in UK schools.
Over the last 3 years, the EMNGPS has been at the centre of development education in the East Midlands, bringing together the region's key players in development education, including local education authorities, development education centres and NGOs like Skillshare International. The network creates an environment for organisations to work together and successfully develop a joint strategy vital for a renovated approached to development education and international development.
Since 2003, Skillshare International has provided strategic support to the EMNGPS. We facilitate organisational growth and capacity building of the network and its future sustainability. At operational level we support teacher training activities and the development and implementation of evaluation and funding strategies. Skillshare International also hosts the Network Manager, Cathryn Gathercole.
This partnership gives Skillshare International valuable learning experience in developing more effective ways to engage with educational institutions to reach a wider target group and in developing resources based on projects with partner organisations to absorb this learning into the core curriculum.
