How can I help?
You can give money to the appeal online at our Kenya Green and Clean appeal web page, by phone on 0116 254 1862 (outside the UK it's +44 116 254 1862) or by writing to us at Kenya Green and Clean Appeal, Skillshare International, 126 New Walk, Leicester LE1 7JA, UK.
How else can I help?
You could help by fundraising for the appeal, for example by getting sponsored to do a long walk or anything else challenging or unusual. Or how about sharing your skills? Anything you can do can help make money, by helping other people directly or by teaching them a new skill in return for a donation to our appeal. Please get in touch with us so we can help you with your fundraising. Email us at fundraising@skillshare.org
If you think our Kenya Green and Clean Appeal is a good project, you could help by telling your friends and family about it, especially those who would agree with you! Every extra donation, no matter how small, can make a long lasting difference.
How will my gift help?
The main thing that this project is doing is making big improvements to the availability of safe drinking water for rural communities affected by persistent drought over the last few years. It's all about using proven, straightforward technologies effectively and combining these with training in new skills and coping mechanisms to make sure that the improvements are long lasting. We are particularly targeting schools where rainwater harvesting, mainly by capturing the water that falls on the roof and storing it in a tank, and improved sanitation will mean a safer, healthier education for children at 12 schools.
What sort of thing will my money pay for?
It isn't practical for us to say what specific item your donation will pay for, but we can tell you it will all be allocated to the project budget. Examples of what that budget will pay for include:
- £1.70 - the price of a Sunday newspaper - could help a father store water to protect his family from the effects of climate change
- £3 could provide clean water and toilets for a schoolchild
- £8.60 could provide long term income and nutrition from honey bees for drought affected families
Who are you working with?
Skillshare International is an international organisation and our policy is to work in partnership with organisations who know best what is needed in local conditions and have specific expertise. In the Kenya Green and Clean Appeal we are working with the Greater Horn of Africa Rainwater Partnership and the Kenya Rainwater Association.
